Youth Activities

This 6-1/2 hour course covers safety skills, child care skills, life and business skills; as well as CPR instruction and manikin practice. Space is limited to the first 6 participants to register.
The class will be held at TRC's Activity Center (300 E. US 24/40) in the Activity Room.

This is an internet-assisted course.  
Participants must complete the online course through the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks.  You will not be allowed to participate in the field day if you cannot produce a completion certificate to the instructors at registration in the morning.  You can find this free course online at https://ksoutdoors.gov/Services/Education/Hunter/Hunter-Ed-Courses/Hybrid-Course

Additionally, you will be going on a short hike to a nearby outdoor shooting range located on site.  Please do not bring any firearms.  Guns and ammunition will be provided. 

Dress appropriately for the weather.  The class is in a metal building and if the weather is hot/cold it will be warm/cool in the building.  I suggest dressing in layers.  The shooting range may also be warm/cool/muddy, so wear appropriate shoes/jackets.

This class introduces students to traditional taekwondo training, providing a strong foundation for their martial arts journey. Students will learn fundamental techniques, basic forms, coordination, and self-defense skills while developing essential life skills such as respect, focus, confidence, perseverance, and self-discipline.

Register 1 month at a time. Class begins March 22, 2026.

Say hello to the class we always needed in high school, but we never had!

This is a 2-part income management workshop to the working teens in our community. This workshop goes beyond saving allowance. Teens will learn how to make smart spending decisions, create a basic budget relevant to their lives, set financial goals about things they actually care about, and develop healthy money management habits for the future. The content is interactive, practical, and built around situations teens recognize. No jargon, no lectures, just life-skills they can use today.

Meet the instructor: Lori Morenz!

Lori Morenz holds a Finance degree from Emporia State University and has a heart for helping others build confidence with their money. Since 2014, she has been a disciplined budgeter who believes that a clear plan creates freedom and peace. Lori has led multiple Financial Peace University classes through Ramsey Solutions, equipping individuals and families with practical tools to take control of their finances.

As a wife and mother of two teenage boys, Lori understands firsthand the importance of teaching strong money habits early. She is passionate about helping people win with money—one budget, one goal, and one step at a time.

This cornhole league is open to all ages and skill levels. League will follow ACL rules. 

This league will take place outdoors, weather permitting on league nights. 

Teams will play 2-3 Matches per night. Matches will be best 2 out of 3.

SUMMER SPOTLIGHT | THE WONDEFUL WIZARD OF OZ

WORKSHOP WEEK | MAY 25 - 27

A fun-filled theater workshop week where kids play interactive games and take part in exciting activities designed to build acting skills and confidence. Participants explore theater techniques like improvisation, storytelling, and movement while working together and expressing their creativity.

One day dedicated to auditions, where participants have the opportunity to showcase their talents and be cast in roles. Then the group then comes together for an initial read-through of the script, getting familiar with the story, characters, and setting the stage for the production ahead.

This is a fitness program that combines Latin and International music with dance moves.

Zumba mixes low and high intensity moves for an interval style, calorie burning dance fitness party!

Has your kiddo always been interested in Dungeons and Dragons but have no idea how to get started?

We will be instructing camp participants on social and communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving, teamwork and adaptability, creativity, strategic planning and decision making, active listening and giving them all the information and strategies they need to get started.

Training and lessons include designing a dragon, individual and small group projects, and even an escape room!

Students will create in mixed medias from paint, printmaking in clay to sculpture, collage, and sand! We will learn about famous artists of the past and current working artists to give us inspiration for our art. Six art mediums will be covered per grade level to give students exposure to diverse art techniques. Students will bring home all the art they create.

Ms. Heather has been an art teacher for over 15 years. She works as an art teacher for NKC Parks and Rec, is a festival manager with NKC and Parkville, MO and is the Creative Director of Creative Spark Gallery at Englewood Row in KCMO.

Bring your furry best friend and join the fun at Dog Days of Summer Bingo! Hosted by Tongie Rec and County Line Brewing, this all-ages event features five exciting rounds of bingo, paw-some prizes, dog-friendly snacks, and an afternoon full of fun, friends, and wagging tails.

Prizes will include items for you and your dog!

Registration is required, and all pups must be friendly, leashed, and up to date on vaccines.

PS: You do not need a dog to register. You are welcome to register and play and meet everyone's fuzzy buddy!
