Youth Activities

This 6-1/2 hour course covers safety skills, child care skills, life and business skills; as well as CPR instruction and manikin practice. Space is limited to the first 6 participants to register.
The class will be held at TRC's Activity Center (300 E. US 24/40) in the Activity Room.

TRC is hosting the Tonganoxie Arts Council and the Tonganoxie Community Historical Society for a Patriotic Paint activity!

Do you remember seeing those painted wooden boards on the light poles around Downtown Tonganoxie? Those are thanks to TAC's members and participants who spend time painting them each year. 

This year they are teaming up with TCHS to celebrate the Declaration of Independence's 250th anniversary year!

Head to the Rec Center for a morning of red, white, and blue paint, friends, and patriotic celebration!

This is an internet-assisted course.  
Participants must complete the online course through the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks.  You will not be allowed to participate in the field day if you cannot produce a completion certificate to the instructors at registration in the morning.  You can find this free course online at https://ksoutdoors.gov/Services/Education/Hunter/Hunter-Ed-Courses/Hybrid-Course

Additionally, you will be going on a short hike to a nearby outdoor shooting range located on site.  Please do not bring any firearms.  Guns and ammunition will be provided. 

Dress appropriately for the weather.  The class is in a metal building and if the weather is hot/cold it will be warm/cool in the building.  I suggest dressing in layers.  The shooting range may also be warm/cool/muddy, so wear appropriate shoes/jackets.

We've invited Archery Excellence from Independence, MO to set up a workshop at the Rec Center!

Learn basic steps and skills to experience the sport of archery. 

Through the disciplines learned in archery, you not only learn a valuable and fun sport, but also gain self-confidence, boost self-esteem, learn to be disciplined, gain better focus, and learn the value of life and how to treat others with that same value.

This class introduces students to traditional taekwondo training, providing a strong foundation for their martial arts journey. Students will learn fundamental techniques, basic forms, coordination, and self-defense skills while developing essential life skills such as respect, focus, confidence, perseverance, and self-discipline.

We’re excited to bring lacrosse to Tonganoxie and continue growing one of the fastest-growing sports in the country.

This free Lacrosse Skills Clinic is designed to introduce and develop fundamental skills within the game.

Players ages 10–15 will learn core techniques including passing, catching, shooting, cradling, ground balls, positioning, and basic game concepts.

Whether your child is brand new to the sport or looking to sharpen their skills, this clinic provides the perfect opportunity to learn and improve their game.

Led by experienced coach and former player Matt Kimsey, participants will receive quality instruction focused on skill development and understanding the fundamentals of lacrosse.

All equipment is provided — cleats are recommended but not required.

Say hello to the class we always needed in high school, but we never had!

This is a 2-part income management workshop to the working teens in our community. This workshop goes beyond saving allowance. Teens will learn how to make smart spending decisions, create a basic budget relevant to their lives, set financial goals about things they actually care about, and develop healthy money management habits for the future. The content is interactive, practical, and built around situations teens recognize. No jargon, no lectures, just life-skills they can use today.

Meet the instructor: Lori Morenz!

Lori Morenz holds a Finance degree from Emporia State University and has a heart for helping others build confidence with their money. Since 2014, she has been a disciplined budgeter who believes that a clear plan creates freedom and peace. Lori has led multiple Financial Peace University classes through Ramsey Solutions, equipping individuals and families with practical tools to take control of their finances.

As a wife and mother of two teenage boys, Lori understands firsthand the importance of teaching strong money habits early. She is passionate about helping people win with money—one budget, one goal, and one step at a time.
