Stretch-N-Grow 
The fabulously fun fitness program for kids!  Engaging toddlers through preschoolers to move, exercise, make healthy choices and love doing it!
This class meets weekly.

No pre-registration is required. Pay per class or purchase a punch card at our front desk.  

Thursdays: 10:30-11:30AM
Ages:  0-5 yrs
$5 per class for residents. $6 for non-residents.

Kids Crochet REGISTER

Students will learn how to get started crocheting, chain and single crochet stitches and learn about different kinds of yarn and hooks. They will also learn how to end a project. Materials provided.

All Ages BINGO REGISTER

Come to the Recreation Activity center for All Ages Bingo! 10 rounds of bingo, prizes for each round, and snacks & drinks provided.

For Mother's Day Bingo, we do not collect the usual fee. Instead, we ask for participants to bring in a donation of feminine hygiene products for The Good Shepherd Thrift Store right here in Tonganoxie.


Children 14 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Safe Sitter REGISTER

This 6-1/2 hour course covers safety skills, child care skills, life and business skills; as well as CPR instruction and manikin practice. Space is limited to the first 6 participants to register.
The class will be held at TRC's Activity Center (300 E. US 24/40) in the Activity Room.

Kids Crochet Plus+ REGISTER

Students will learn how to read a pattern to construct a hat. The first session students will read the pattern and get started. The second session will be to finish off the project. (2 session class)

Basketball Skills Camp REGISTER

For Wednesday's early release at the Middle School. We will have two sessions for the Spring Semester. You will sign up for each session individually. Each session includes 8 dates. Participants will go through drills and activities to work on skills related to basketball. Participants may also work on hand eye coordination, footwork, agility, and speed drills as well. 

Session 1 dates: January 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th; February 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th

Session 2 dates: March 5th, 12th, 26th; April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th

Hunter Education '25 REGISTER

This is an internet-assisted course.  
Participants must complete the online course through the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks.  You will not be allowed to participate in the field day if you cannot produce a completion certificate to the instructors at registration in the morning.  You can find this free course online at https://programs.ksoutdoors.com/prg/Programs/Hunter-Education-Certification

Additionally, you will be going on a short hike to a nearby outdoor shooting range located on site.  Please do not bring any firearms.  Guns and ammunition will be provided. 

Dress appropriately for the weather.  The class is in a metal building and if the weather is hot/cold it will be warm/cool in the building.  I suggest dressing in layers.  The shooting range may also be warm/cool/muddy, so wear appropriate shoes/jackets.

2025 Pepper Spray 101 REGISTER

This class is for everyone, but especially helpful to college students. Headed to college for the first time? Returning college student? This class is a MUST before heading back to campus!

Tonganoxie Recreation and Tammy Bartels are bringing self-defense to the Recreation Center. Pepper Spray 101 is a course in how to respond to uncomfortable approaches, the safety and use of pepper spray, and the legalities of pepper spray if used. Tammy Bartels has been teaching self-defense and pepper spray for 4 years and has a passion for bringing safety techniques to the community. Join us in learning how to protect ourselves and stay safe.

$25 Fee: Attend the class only.

$40 Fee: Attend the class and take home your own pepper spray.

Short Sports 2025 REGISTER
A great introductory sports program for children ages 3-4 to enter the world of sports in a safe and fun environment. Participants will be exposed to the fundamentals of throwing, catching, kicking and other skills needed to prepare them for future sports leagues.

Tamale Making Class REGISTER

March 23rd is National Tamale Day!

We welcome Tez Bakes to the Tongie Rec Center for an afternoon of learning how to make this delectable Mexican cuisine.

Raquel Gaitan is a local maker of specialty cookies, pastries, and traditional Mexican tamales. She has been serving the local community for many years and is looking forward to sharing her recipe with Tonganoxie.

The best part? This class includes 2 tamales of your own to enjoy after class, woo hoo!

Find Miss Heather at the Tonganoxie Easter Egg Hunt and create unique tracks with paint on paper! Abstract art inspired by country life.

Bird Nest Creations

APRIL 26 | 11 AM – 12 PM [Registration required.]

Description: Make a 3D bird nest using twigs, yarn, and paper eggs. Learn about local bird species while crafting!

Sun Catcher Creations

Description: Design a vibrant sun catcher to brighten any window! Learn about color and light while layering tissue paper.

Recycled Art Robots

Description: Bring a robot to life using recycled materials! Add personality with paint, buttons, and foil details.

Starry Night Stories

Description: Inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night, create your own swirling sky full of stars and stories using oil pastels.

Monster Rocks

Country Market Still Life

Description: Set up a still life with fruits, vegetables, or flowers and paint or draw what you see, just like at a country market.

Texture Trek: Exploring Nature’s Patterns

JULY 26 MESSY DAY OF PLAY | 2 – 4 P [Comes with Mess Day of Play registration.]

Find Miss Heather at the Messy Day of Play at Chieftain Park and create rubbings from leaves, bark, and other natural objects to make a nature-inspired texture collage. Explore how patterns in nature tell a story.

Fee: Free with registration to Mess Day of Play event, while supplies last.
